With the Fall season in full effect, there's no better time to 'turn a new leaf' then now. I'm so excited to share this online space for you to keep up with all things Jamie Smith Interiors! Here on the blog you will find updates on new projects, interior inspiration, and design tips. Thank you for being here and I hope you come back often to see what we're up to. In the meantime, I figured an introduction via a quick Q & A would be helpful for all the new faces around here!
Where do you find design inspiration?
I find a lot of my inspiration from travel, fashion, nature and design publications. I also love seeing the latest restaurant and hotel designs and perusing Instagram and Pinterest. There's no shortage of inspiration to be found!
Favorite Travel Destination?
I'm a beach girl through and through. Having grown up in the South (Atlanta to be exact!), I traveled to the scenic beaches along 30A and surrounding areas often so those beaches will always be a favorite destination. The sand is so soft, the water is crystal clear and I love the southern culture you find there. There is also so much architectural inspiration to be found in Alys Beach, Watercolor and Rosemary Beach.
Your motto in design is laid-back luxe living. Can you elaborate on this?
Here at Jamie Smith Interiors, we strive to create a home that is beautiful yet functional. I've never been a fan of spaces that feel stuffy or formal. To achieve this, we opt for casual fabrics like linen, natural fibers and family-friendly options as well as a variety of organic elements and woven textures that create a laid-back yet luxurious environment. We want you to feel like you're on a vacation every day, not escaping your home for vacation!
Which process during the design of a home do you like best?
I really love the process of selecting light fixtures. It's amazing how much more elevated a home can feel with high quality fixtures. If there's one thing to invest in, be it good lighting!
You're a dreamer and a doer. Do you have a long-term goal for Jamie Smith Interiors?
A long-term goal would be to extend my brand through an e-commerce website or brick and mortar store, offering home goods, furnishings and accessories. It's been a dream for years! They say once you put it out into the universe it's more likely to happen, right?
How would you describe your personal style? How has it evolved over the years?
My personal style is pretty casual and classic - at least I like to think, ha! I love trying new trends but tend to stick to a uniform of jeans paired with a basic tee or top and a leather jacket or blazer. I love getting dressed up for a nice dinner and events, however on a day-to-day basis you can find me in more comfortable, casual wear. In the summer my style is a little on the boho side - casual flowy dresses are a favorite. As I've gotten older, I've realized the importance of investment pieces that will last for years. I used to be drawn toward much brighter colors and it seems my wardrobe and overall style has shifted to a neutral color palette. My personal style plays a big part in our approach to interior design.
Chicago is home to you. What are some of your go-to restaurants?
RL Restaurant in the Gold Coast is an all-time favorite along with Summer House Santa Monica in Lincoln Park. A recent favorite is Aba in the West Loop!
What is your current favorite design trend?
I'm really loving white oak cabinets. I'll always be a favorite of classic white or a fun color like deep blue or green, but there's something so fresh about the natural look happening right now.
What kind of dog do you have?
Zoey is a seven year old golden doodle. I couldn't imagine life without her! I may be bias, but she is the sweetest, most lovable dog. Actually, all doodles are! I am a total doodle enthusiast -- you will definitely see her from time to time on my Instagram stories.
"Say yes to new adventures". Because good things never come from comfort zones!
A home isn't complete without what?
Throw pillows, vintage rugs, nice bedding, rattan/wicker accessories, beautiful hand soap, decorative beads, your favorite artwork, coffee table books, greenery and pretty dish towels, to name a few!
